Xfinity Stream & X1
I was Lead Information Architect across multiple teams in Comcast's Technology & Product Organization, working on projects including Xfinity Stream for Roku, iOS, and Android.
At Comcast, I led teams to create seamless, user-centered experiences across the X1, Streaming, and Roku applications. By examining the customer journey, we crafted intuitive in-app experiences to support users at every step. My dedication to accessibility guided this work, ensuring inclusivity—a commitment recognized with the Comcast Accessibility Champion Award.
While working on the X1 platform, I designed for over 20 million users, optimizing settings, playback, and sports experiences. Designing for television required balancing functionality with ease of use on a larger screen, presenting unique challenges and the opportunity to make impactful improvements for millions.

Role
-
Streaming on Roku and Smart TVs
We launched the Xfinity Stream Beta on Roku, and the overwhelmingly positive response led us to expand onto Samsung, Apple, and select LG Smart TVs. This project posed unique challenges, particularly with designing a user-friendly experience across remote input types and unusual interfaces. We tailored the experience to ensure seamless navigation on each device, including compatibility with quirky remotes like the "Harry Potter wand" remote!
By the second quarter of 2024, our app has more than 13 million reviews in the Roku store—a testament to the widespread adoption and usability of our streaming experience. -
Intuitive Playback Project
This project focused on refining our video player across all Xfinity Streaming apps, including 10-foot interfaces, Web, Mobile Web, iOS, and Android. We introduced a ‘mini menu’ that streamlined navigation, enabling users to access key features and jump to other live channels with ease.
Enhancements were also made to the ‘autoplay’ feature for seamless series viewing. Additionally, we explored smart button capabilities, like detecting live sports events and dynamically presenting a call-to-action for the Sports Zone, creating a more personalized and intuitive experience tailored to each viewer's context. -
Transactions and Sales
This project introduced purchasing and rental options for series and movies across all streaming platforms in SD and HD. We designed an end-to-end purchase experience that considered every detail, from the first-time splash screen and parental control PINs to updates in universal navigation, upsells for premium channels, and confirmation language.
Navigating legal restrictions and platform constraints—like Apple’s policies—was key, as was addressing rental options for in- and out-of-home internet. We even incorporated features for PIN resetting and filtering between free and paid content. The impact was immediate, with our Roku launch alone generating $1.4 million in the first month.
-
X1 Ultra High Definition Rollout
This project centered on understanding and communicating the availability of Dolby Atmos surround sound and Ultra High Definition quality for the X1 platform and broader streaming ecosystem. I researched hardware requirements, video quality capabilities, and provider compatibility to determine when and how we could incorporate these features across our platform.
We created a detailed knowledge artifact to circulate insights throughout the company, ensuring teams were aligned on technical specs and feature availability. This resource also informed marketing materials, helping our audience understand the benefits of UHD and Dolby Atmos. The project was heavily focused on data gathering, visualization, and effective cross-team communication.
-
Settings Audit on the X1
The X1 settings were often seen as a “feature dumping ground” within the company, so as Lead Information Architect, I conducted a thorough audit of settings across both TV and streaming platforms. This audit helped me identify key areas for improvement, from toggles and binary settings to complex multi-click experiences and user flows.
Based on data analysis, I developed a streamlined information architecture, reorganizing settings to enhance usability and accessibility. Additionally, I updated workflows to optimize user interactions, creating a more intuitive and efficient experience for navigating the X1’s extensive settings.
-
Sports Zone on the X1
I contributed to the development of a mini guide designed to enhance access to the Xfinity Sports Zone, enabling X1 customers to stay updated on live stats, scores, and game highlights. This feature allows users to receive real-time notifications for their favorite teams, creating a tailored sports experience that keeps fans connected to the action.
The Sports Zone mini guide makes it easy for users to track games and stats without interrupting their primary viewing experience, delivering a seamless and engaging way to follow live sports.
